The Discovery Center believes in the disease concept of alcoholism, however, it is also important that psycho-social aspects of client's lives be explored in the treatment process. The lack of socialization and coping skills is often the precipitating stimulus which leads to the return of alcohol and other drug use.
Clients will be provided with accurate, factual information in a direct, non-threatening, model of treatment. Every attempt will be made to motivate and empower clients to make decisions that will enhance their ability to live a healthy, productive life, abstinent from mood-altering chemicals. The Discovery Center will provide an environment where individuals have the freedom to assess to what degree alcohol and other drugs have negatively impacted their lives. At the same time, individuals are assisted in making behavioral changes so that a more positive, independent lifestyle can be achieved.
The Discovery Center promotes the concept of total abstinence from alcohol and other mood-altering drugs while simultaneously recognizing the necessity for some individuals to maintain a stable lifestyle through the use of prescribed maintenance medications. The Discovery Center will make every effort to work with clients experiencing this need. The Discovery Center is also committed to working closely with other professionals whose clients are in need of treatment for chemical dependency. The Discovery Center clients who are not working with other professionals prior to entering will be assessed for such need as a part of the treatment process. Appropriate referrals will be made.
